It was my turn to make dinner last night, and I had to make it quickly so I could leave for babysitting. We were short on good ingredients, so I went crazy and improvised, throwing in leftovers and some additions. Here's what I used: two different kinds of pasta, honey dijon salad dressing, peanuts, a lot of mozzarella, hard boiled eggs, leftover chicken and rice, etc. And to top it all off, I left it on the stove too long, and it stuck to the bottom of the pot. It was colorless mush. I laughed hysterically as I served it out, unbelieving that I actually made such a horrible dish. Everyone looked nauseous as I passed the plates out.
It went down in family history as one of the most disgusting meals ever. Ben was my only ardent fan. He shovelled it in, remarking on how great the peanuts tasted with it. Lydia says the peanuts were the worst part. Dad even said it was gross, and that is saying something since he normally eats dinner (whatever it is) without any complaining. Naomi said she'd rather have a salad. Micah mysteriously disappeared before grace. Mom was at a meeting last night and didn't eat with us...fortunately for her. When she came home later, Dad told her he had a stomach-ache from what I made.
And the worst part is, there's a big container full of LEFTOVERS in the fridge. Anyone up for Joanna's Disaster in burritos tonight? ;)
Even though I kinda think the fiasco was funny, I'm a little ashamed to write of it. --But hey, it's memories! -- Everyone will look back with such fondness. ;) To compensate for what I made, I think next week I'll make pizza from scratch. Everyone likes that.
